While this isn't strictly travel related, my love for fall is so great I just had to share my top eight reasons why Autumn is the best season of all. There's more reasons than the ones listed below, but this is my compilation of why fall is #1.
#1 The Colors.
There are a number of ways autumn is number one. However, probably the biggest reason is the colors. Brilliant oranges, fiery reds, and popping yellows make it seem like you are walking in one of Afremov's paintings. You can almost never get tired of looking at it-- unless you really hate the color red. However, for most people, it is as if you are walking inside a magical, fiery landscape.
#2 The Weather.
If you live somewhere in the East, you know that winters are usually freezing cold and summers are absolutely sweltering. There is no balance... except for in autumn. Blue skies and sunshine seem to be the predominant weather with air so fresh and crisp you can practically here it crackle. Corn husk rays have that soft golden color that only seems to be there in the fall, and the cool temperature makes it perfect to take walks or just sit outside with a cup of hot chocolate.
#3 Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
Come on, we know they're everywhere, but Starbucks's Pumpkin Spice lattes are absolutely delicious. Though they usually come with the stereotypical image of a booted, black-legging girl, the mounds of whipped cream and cozy, warm spices will fill anybody up, and are just as irresistible.
#4 ...Actually, the Pumpkin-spiced Everything.
If you are allergic to pumpkins, then I give you my sincere apologies. Or if you just plain don't like them. Pumpkin pies, pumpkin marshmallows, even pumpkin chips. The taste of this bright fruit (yes fruit) and its host of tag-along spices seem to infect the world with a sweet orange craze.
#5 The Pumpkins.
I have pretty much exhausted the joy of the tasting pumpkins. However, I have not yet mentioned the appearance of pumpkins. We see them sitting on doorsteps or grinning down from balconies, the infamous jack-o-lanterns. Though there are the regular half moon mouth and the two triangle eyes pumpkins, there are some jack-o-lanterns carved with images such as a flying witch or a great big warty face. Probably the best one I've seen to date is a Harry Potter one with Harry's face carved into the front.
#6 Halloween.
Halloween. I'm surprised I didn't think of this one earlier. Giggling kids, colorful costumes, free candy, what's not to love? This is the one day a kid can dress up as a pirate, princess, Avenger, whatever, and get paid in Kit Kats for it. Even the sporadic storms or random burst of freezing weather can't dampen the excitement of running around with friends and getting to stay up late, though the resulting sugar high is definitely something to deal with!
#7 Big Sweaters and Wool Socks.
Fall and big sweaters go hand in hand. Warm, cozy, and making it really fun to slap people with the long sleeves, when paired with wool socks this sweater-sock combo is truly powerful. Even the sweaters your grandma knits, the ones you throw in the back of the closet and hope magically disappear, can emerge and give you something fuzzy to cuddle in.
#8 Air Fares.
Hey, I did manage to tie travel into this after all! According to the experts, plane tickets are supposed to reach a four-year low this fall, so if you've been looking for an excuse to take a break and get away somewhere, then this should provide you the perfect reason.
And this concludes the list of why fall truly is the #1 season.
